The labor minister said that the Dominican Republic has more jobs than before Covid.

The labor minister affirmed yesterday that the private sector had created 147,414 new formal jobs during the new government. This figure has allowed the Dominican Republic to have more formal jobs than before the Covid 19 pandemic.

The records of the Social Security Treasury (TSS) support this data. In effect, it shows that in February 2020, there were 1,494,470 workers in formal jobs in the private sector at the start of the pandemic. There were 1,530,832 by the end of 2021.

The minister said the three economic sectors that have contributed the most to this recovery of formal private jobs are:
1) Hotels, Bars, and Restaurants, with 63,613.
2) Commerce, with 40,014.
3) Manufacturing, whit 18,230.
